Ethics for the new millenium

An ideal spiritual precept for all children, regardless of where they come from, is those human values which are the foundation of all religions, every ethic system, and all spirituality. The teaching about human values is the teaching about universal and God-given spirituality of human race, the spirituality which has been today so tragically neglected. It is the teaching about spirituality that is expressed in five of the world’s religions. That teaching does not jeopardize any of them, or any faith or any particular doctrine. On the contrary, it brings them together in kinship and harmony.
Without these values top experts from any field can become Dr. Mengeles. If supported from early age, however, these universal values of truth, non-violence, moral conduct, compassion and peace-lovingness build a balanced relationship between a person and the world. In times of socialist ignorance, such training and such a goal of education were deemed backward and hostile and in today’s nationalistic perversion, it is the same-hostile and backward. Money and economic progress or military power can for a short while achieve this or that, conquer, or obtain, but they cannot do that which can achieve moral integrity-preserve and keep it.
With the death of morality, a disastrous downfall ensues, not only in the area of economy and human dignity but also of every other sphere of life. The blows and shock we suffer these days can be healing and beneficial but whether they will be so depends on us. From this shock can start the path of return and ascension. That way is neither easy nor quick but the job will be done thoroughly, causing a lasting and decisive change in the focus of our lives as well as in the generation growing up.
But that gradual, slow road, that return to human values, that repentance to use the language of the church, is the only radical and non-violent way for the tyrannosaurus rex of immorality to die out in this ravaged savanna.
